Eddie Murphy In Talks To Star As George Clinton In Upcoming Biopic

Eddie Murphy is taking on a funk legend in an upcoming biopic.

According to Deadline, Murphy is in early talks to portray George Clinton, the founder of the funk group Parliament-Funkadelic and Rock and a Roll Hall of Fame inductee and recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The film will follow Clinton’s beginnings in North Carolina as he finds his musical path with the new genre, funk, influencing a host of future musicians, rappers, and artists.

Murphy has a three-picture deal at Amazon Studios, but the film is reported as one that will be shopped, so it would seem the film won’t necessarily land at Amazon despite Murphy’s deal. Deadline reports that this biopic is a passion project for Murphy.
Murphy will not only star, but also serve as producer with John Davis and Catherine Davis via Davis Entertainment. Rights to Clinton’s life story are currently being negotiated, after which writers will be hired.

The film serves as another collaboration between Murphy and Davis, who worked together on Dolemite Is My Name.
