An Ohio family is grappling with the tragic death of a 7-month-old baby girl who was fatally struck by gunfire while riding in a car with her father.
Jeremiah Hughes, 20, was driving near the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Jackman Road on Wednesday when another car began firing shots at the vehicle.
Desire Hughes suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was brought to an ER. The infant later succumbed to her injuries.
Jeremiah was grazed by a bullet but was treated and released from the hospital.
According to Deputy Coroner of Lucas County Thomas Blomquist, Desire’s death has been ruled a homicide.
Toledo Police are now asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects responsible. Anyone with home security footage of the incident or if they saw anything suspicious to contact Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
